About This Destination

Sukarara Village is a traditional weaving center in Central Lombok long recognized as the hub of Sasak songket production. Located not far from Lombok Airport, this village is a must-visit cultural destination for understanding Lombok's textile heritage. Upon entering the village, you are greeted by rows of Sasak women seated at traditional looms (gedogan), deftly weaving gold and silver threads into intricate motifs. Visitors can observe up close and even try their hand at weaving with guidance from local artisans. One of Sukarara's unique draws is the local tradition: unmarried women are expected to be able to weave before being proposed to. The songket fabrics produced are high quality with distinctive Lombok motifs such as Subahnale, Keker, and Wayang. Visitors can also rent traditional Sasak attire for photo sessions in the village.
